Antipodes are two points on the Earth's surface in opposite locations relative to the centre of the Earth.
Since less than 30% of Earth's surface is land, land-to-land antipodes are rather uncommon and are shown in russet brown on the accompanying map.
In the Northern Hemisphere, and particularly in the British Isles "the Antipodes" is often used to refer collectively to Australia and New Zealand although no part of the British Isles has a significant land antipodes.
