[edit] By bus
Buses travel to and from Sorrento via Positano and Praiano. Buses also travel to and from Salerno via Maiori and Minori. Local buses also link Amalfi with Ravello.
Positano is approx. 40 minutes from Amalfi (depending on traffic). The trip to Amalfi from Sorrento is approx. 1 hour and 15 minutes (depending on traffic). Just a quick warning: It took us 2 hours waiting in line to catch the bus at 10:30am.
The most comfortable way to travel along the Amalfi Coast and Sorrentine Peninsula is certainly by bus. SITA offers a very efficient public transportation service in the area, with expert drivers who breeze along the winding roads like they were driving on a highway (you will be happy to know that they are experienced). Here is something that you might need to know to know before you board your bus. 1. You have to buy your tickets in advance, before you get on the bus. Tickets can be bought at bars and shops displaying the SITA logo, as well as at the SITA ticket offices. If a bar does not sell SITA tickets, you can always ask where you can find them. 2. As you get on the bus you have to clip your ticket in the yellow/orange machine that you will see in front of you as you climb the steps. If you are not able to get the machine to clip your ticket, ask the driver to do it for you. Do not forget to clip the ticket: during your trip an agent will board the bus and ask to check the ticket. If the ticket is not clipped you will have to pay a fine. The official SITA web site is at http://www.sitabus.it.
[edit] By boat
There are boats and hydrofoils in summer from Sorrento, Positano, Minori, and Salerno
In the summer months (May to October), Amalfi, Positano, Salerno, Capri, Naples and Sorrento are connected by ferry or hydrofoil. Headquartered in Naples, the Metro del Mare is an extension of urban public transport -- by sea. Operating since 2002, it connects the northern ports of Bacoli and Pozzuoli to Naples and from there goes to Sorrento, Positano, and Amalfi. The service runs from May through October, with three boats a day between Naples and Positano. Check the local papers (Il Mattino or La Repubblica) for timetables or go to www.metrodelmare.com. A one-way ticket costs EUR10, making it the cheapest way to get around by sea. In addition to this public transport service, many commercial ferries and hydrofoils run year-round, but offer the most trips in high season.
Headquartered in Amalfi, ferries operated by Linee Maritime Salernitane (a consorzio which includes lines run by Alicost and Metro del Mare) cover the region. Ferries sail from Salerno to Positano (about EUR6); Salerno to Amalfi (EUR5); and Salerno to Capri (EUR11.50). A hydrofoil connects Amalfi to Salerno (EUR5.50); Salerno to Positano (EUR8.50; and Salerno to Capri (EUR13.50). Hydrofoils usually run only in summer, less frequently than ferries. Tickets can be purchased at booths usually located on piers and docks. Fares & Schedules Boat and Ferry Information Alicost (PHONE: 089/871483). Alilauro (PHONE: 081/8073024). [edit] By Train
The two main train stations serving the Amalfi Coast are Salerno and Sorrento. Conveniently, the stations are also hubs for cheap, efficient bus services radiating toward the major tourist destinations along the coast and inland.

[edit] By Car
It is possible to hire a car for your stay - but driving in Italy is not for the faint-hearted! For those of you who are adventurous, mopeds seem to be the most practical form of transport, however it is not advisable to hire them in Naples as it is a long journey to Amalfi on major roads and at some points these roads are narrow and cliff hugging.
