  • Vorontsov Estate. Constructed between 1828 and 1848 as the home of Mikhail Semenovich Vorontsov Field Marshall of the Russian army, and hero of the Napoleonic wars and Governor-General of the Novorossiisk region. Vorontsov spent a vast fortune on this palace, employing the skills of english architect Edward Bloor, who is best known for his work on Buckingham Palace in England. The palace is a mixture of Scottish Manor house with Moorish traditions taken from the 14th-century Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain. The palace has outstanding views across the Black Sea and is overlooked by the mountains and Ai-Petri (St Peter) in particular.  edit

Do[edit][add listing]

  • Ai-Petri. Ai-Petri at 1234 metres is reached by one of the longest cable car rides in Europe, 3 kilometres and spilt in two parts, the journey offers spectacular views of the Crimean coast. At the top you will be greeted by the local Tartar inhabitants who live here. Cafe's, souvenir stalls and the chance to ride a Tartar horse are on offer. To reach the highest peak you will need some stout shoes as their are no real paths over the rough rocks and through the trees, but the effort is worth it.  edit

  • Karamba, 10 Frunze Street, +380654723283, [1]. A pirate-style restaurant with a quality fusion food, representing Russian, Ukrainian, Tartar and other cuisines, with a great selection of wines. The specialty cocktails are tastefully made by local bartenders who operate a world class establishment. The restaurant is frequented by Russian tourists and other ex-pats. Wi-fi is convenient. Try 'rapany' - local sea mussels that are cooked with garlic and mayonnaise sauce and are soft on the texture, goes well with local Inkerman white wine.  edit

  • Hotel Alupka, +38 0654 722-297, [2]. A nice, clean hotel is located in the central street of Alupka. Famous Vorontsov Palace where Churchill stayed during Yalta 1945 Conference and where he enjoyed famous Massandra port and other wines, is within 5 minutes walk from the hotel. The beaches are somewhat rocky and you will need special shoes to enter the sea, but the beauty of the parks surrounding the Vorontsov Palace, is going to captivate you. The boat from the down pier leaves for Yalta in case you want a sea trip. Otherwise, take a local cab which should not charge you astronomical prices.  edit
