The city has very little to see for the traveller, and is likely only useful as a stop-over point when travelling through Xinjiang towards, or away from, Kashgar. One will however experience the fascinating ethnic diversity here, which is found all over Xinjiang.

If you don't want to arrive and be escorted by the police to an expensive international hotel, the cheapest place available seems to be the 2 star Hanting Express, part of a chain of basic hotels across China.
The rooms are what you would expect of a basic 2 star hotel. The place is clean and functional. No English is spoken. There is breakfast served for 18rmb per person (July 2015), and other food available.
